Inspiration

Personally, studying for AP Calc BC is a struggle. Most online walkthroughs are 45-60 minutes and bury the concept in the middle of the video. When looking at online pdfs, most skip steps and assume knowledge. I found it frustrating to hunt for resources, and it took away time from my learning. To support students in a similar position, I crafted PantherPacks Calc Resources.

What it does

PantherPacks Calc BC resources provides a united platform for resources, eliminating the need to have 100 tabs open. There are curated videos- the best out of the best that get to points clearly and concisely. With embedded slideshows, there is comprehensible content following the AP College Board rubric and provide examples. A difficulty rating and hour estimate help students gauge where they want to direct their study time.

How we built it

I mapped out the problem, understand what students need when they are stuck on a calc topic. From there, I drafted the components of the site, and tried to build it using CSS. Later it was transferred onto Base 44, for the code I didn't know how to write myself. The process was great in learning how to direct AI to assist my project.

Challenges we ran into

Coming in with zero programming experience was difficult, so learning the basics of HTML was challenging. I kept hitting walls with coding from scratch, so I pivoted and used AI as a collaborator to help direct the project. Understanding what the AI code was actually doing was a learning experience, It was a little difficult to learn how to break things down and make changes to the features I wanted to, such as the task bar.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of learning how front-end development works at a conceptual level, and understanding how HTML structures and how CSS ties into it to layer on design. It was also a success to create a live webpage which helps make calc more digestable.

What we learned

I learned how to transform my ideas using AI collaborators, and fully understanding the problem I was trying to address. I also learned how to describe exactly what I wanted to craft- learning how to build things and iterate on the output.

What's next for PantherPacks Calc Resources

A note-sharing hub where students upload their own study materials to help turn PantherPacks into a platform more than a resource list.
