The problem: As face to face classes suspended and traditional institutes moved to online teaching during the pandemic, online courses have gone mainstream. They are an increasingly normalized way of accessing learning at all levels. Students attend classes and lectures and complete assignments remotely. In the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, online learning is the only way many children and adults can achieve their academic and professional goals.

However, the absence of schedules and classes, while affording greater freedom and flexibility, has its disadvantages. Many students feel less motivated in front of a screen. For example, the average completion rate of MOOCs is lower than 10%. Children may give in to the temptation to play and procrastinate when faced with difficult tasks. Older people can be similarly unmotivated or distracted by life’s demands.

Our solution: We want to build a platform which uses smart contracts to reward completion of online courses.

How it works: Pangolin adds an extra financial incentive to the learning process.

Students (or their parents) pay a fee upfront, and then are reimbursed a small amount of it in the form of crypto every time they finish a session. These points can be put into a wallet, spent on purchases on-line, invested, or redeemed for cash after they reach a certain balance.

To make it engaging and motivating, the app will include gamification features such as leaderboards, animations and special missions.

Advantages to using crypto: It acts as an educational tool for kids to learn how to manage finances and make decisions, and for cryptocurrency novices to become more comfortable with it. It provides a channel to promote cryptocurrencies to a wider audience.

A reward system motivates some people when they can quantify and monetize their educational gains.
