Inspiration

In a world where infectious diseases can spread rapidly across borders, having access to real-time, accurate data is crucial. We were inspired by the need for a tool that could visualize this data in an accessible and meaningful way, leading us to create PandemIQ: Intelligent Disease Mapping.

What it does

PandemIQ is a web application that tracks the spread of infectious diseases globally. It uses data from the World Health Organization, storing and managing it in Google BigQuery, with MongoDB Atlas used for caching. The application provides visualizations of this data, helping health officials and the public understand the current situation and make informed decisions.

How we built it

We used Angular for the frontend of the application, creating an interactive and user-friendly interface. Google BigQuery was used for storing and analyzing the data, while MongoDB Atlas was used for caching to improve performance. Firebase was used for login authentication with Google accounts, and the application was deployed on Vercel, linked to our Github repository.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating multiple technologies into a cohesive application was a challenge. We also had to ensure the data was accurately represented in our visualizations, which required a deep understanding of both the data and the tools we were using.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating an application that not only demonstrates our technical skills but also has real-world relevance. We believe that PandemIQ can provide valuable insights for public health.

What we learned

We learned a lot about working with Google BigQuery, MongoDB Atlas, and Firebase. We also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of data visualization in public health.

What's next for PandemIQ: Intelligent Disease Mapping

We plan to add more features to PandemIQ, such as predictive analytics to forecast the spread of diseases. We also want to incorporate more data sources to provide a more comprehensive view of global health.
