Our inspiration came from multiple months of sitting at home, looking for ways to use our programming experience but unable to find opportunities to do so. We have also know that hundreds of thousands have been laid off from their jobs, and are now looking for work in an extremely dry job market. We want to help these groups of people and many more find ways to use their skills to support themselves.

Our website allowing users to post and view job listings, connecting people who need help with those who can provide it.

We built this website in VueJS. We have multiple different views, with a login system through Google. We also have a database (Firebase) which allows us to save jobs that users add and show relevant jobs to users. Lastly, we use a complicated distance equation to help users view in-person jobs that are nearby to them (within a range that they can set).

One of our team members had never built a website, so he faced some syntax and logic challenges. Other than that, we spent a long time solving an account issue with the Google Developer Portal that prevented us from making API calls. Lastly, time was a very important factor, and as we continue building this website we think it will improve vastly.

We are proud of the look of our website, which feels very simple and yet looks very nice. Also, our Login with Google and Location Autocomplete features took a lot of time, and we are very happy that we were able to include them.

We learned a lot about using databases and interactions between different types of users. Also, working over Zoom presented some challenges, but we did really well with sharing our screens to fix bugs, and with helping each other as much as possible.

We plan to keep working on Pandemic Jobs until it is completely functional. At that point, we might ask people if they would use our website, and update it to be more helpful to everyone. More specifically, we want to make better matches between employers and job seekers, and also add more skills and categories for people to choose from.
