Inspiration
The sudden outbreak of Covid disrupts the life at CMU, and as the school manager, the user tries to relieve the pandemic via strategic tools.
What it does
It shows the outbreak of pandemic by changing number of people and resources. And any quarantines or request help measures will have different impact on it.
How we built it
We start by designing the UI and then setting up variables and parameters to simulate the reality.
Challenges we ran into
We found it hard to have parameters that resembles the actual spread speed of the pandemic, so we ran multiple trials to get the final result.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the verisimilitude of our model to reality. We simulate reality by adjusting parameters using Markov Chain to mimic the spread speed of the pandemic, and the effects of quarantines. Secondly, we visualize the movement of people with dots, and change their color to showcase the state of illness.
What we learned
We learned new features of the languages, new ways to design UI, and most importantly, developed teamwork spirits.
What's next for Pandemic Control Simulator
We gonna incorporate more feature to simulate the reality of pandemics. Potential fields include: propose the citizens to wear masks, remote working, the outbreak of stronger delta-variants, the mass vaccination, etc.
