💡 Inspiration
Recovering from health issues often starts with one thing: improving what we eat. But staying consistent with a diet is hard — you need variety, reminders, and food that still tastes good. I wanted to create a tool that doesn’t just give random recipes, but truly adapts to your health goals and medical needs. Pancake was built from my own journey: facing health problems ( allergies), I realized food can be the first step to recovery — if you can plan, track, and enjoy it.
⚡ What it does
- Scans your grocery receipts and builds recipes from what you already have.
- Lets you plan meals for a week, a month, or a custom time frame (up to 40 days).
- Adjusts meals based on your health conditions and dietary goals (weight loss, muscle gain, recovery, breastfeeding, elderly nutrition, etc.).
- Generates an ingredients list for what you want to cook.
- Tracks nutritional values (calories, proteins, fats, sodium, vitamins) and adapts over time.
- Sends reminders on when to cook or prepare meals, helping you stay on track.
- Acts like a personal dietician + chef, making sure your food is both healthy and enjoyable.
🛠️ How we built it
- Frontend: FlutterFlow
- Backend: Supabase (auth, database, user preferences).
- OCR: ocr.space to scan and process receipts.
- Recipes & Nutrition: Spoonacular for real meals, images, and full nutrition breakdown.
- Notifications: Push reminders for cooking schedules
🚧 Challenges we ran into
- Designing a diet system that adapts to different health goals without being overwhelming.
- Linking OCR-scanned ingredients to real recipes accurately.
- Ensuring no repeated recipes while keeping the meal plan real based on the receipt.
- Getting nutrition tracking right (valid data, not estimates). *Actually * adjucting meals to the user health.
- Balancing speed (AI-generated builds) with real security and persistence.
🏆 Accomplishments that we’re proud of
- Built a diet-first recipe system, not just a recipe generator.
- Connected real receipts → ingredients → meal plan → nutrition tracking.
- Created reminders + planning tools that help users stick to their health goals.
- Personalized the entire cooking experience to health recovery and long-term wellness.
📚 What we learned
- Food is deeply personal — users want a system that’s not only smart but also empathetic to their health struggles.
- Building with AI tools (like Flutterflow) can accelerate innovation, but careful testing is key for trust.
- Nutrition accuracy and recipe diversity are crucial for real-world impact.
- Hackathons are less about “perfect code” and more about solving a meaningful problem fast.
🚀 What’s next for Pancake
- Add integrations with Apple Health, Fitbit, and Samsung Health for automated nutrition + activity syncing.
- Introduce doctor/dietitian collaboration features, where professionals can set dietary plans inside the app.
- Build a community recipe-sharing feature, filtered by diet type and health conditions.
