Inspiration
A front desk is where people, deliveries, appointments, policies, and unexpected situations converge. Yet traditional systems often stop at detecting an event or sending a notification. They leave the actual work of understanding the situation, checking the rules, contacting the right person, and documenting the outcome to someone else.
We envisioned Pam AI as a smarter front desk: one that helps businesses move from simply knowing someone has arrived to understanding what should happen next.
What it does
Pam AI transforms unexpected arrivals into structured, policy-driven workflows. It addresses scenarios such as an early delivery, a contractor arriving without the required approval, or a visitor waiting for host confirmation.
Instead of treating every arrival as a generic alert, Pam AI brings together relevant context, applicable business policies, required approvals, and next steps. Its case-based workflow organizes decisions, tracks progress, and maintains an activity history.
How we built it
We built Pam AI using AI-assisted development and a modular TypeScript application architecture. The product includes a Live Desk, arrival scenarios, deterministic policy evaluation, approval workflows, and case lifecycle management.
We also developed a typed AWS integration layer designed to connect the application to Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, and Amazon DynamoDB. It separates persistence from business logic, supports configurable cloud connectivity, and includes connection testing and error handling.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was defining the right boundaries for automation. An arrival is not automatically an authorization, a scheduled appointment does not guarantee access, and a request is not the same as an approval.
We designed Pam AI around these distinctions so that explicit business rules and human decisions remain central to exception handling.
Accomplishments we're proud of
We are proud of framing the problem as exception resolution rather than another notification dashboard. Pam AI connects the context surrounding an arrival with the policies and decisions needed to move a case forward.
We also focused on separating business logic from persistence, preserving a functional local demo, and creating an extensible path toward serverless cloud storage.
What we learned
We learned that useful agentic applications require more than generating a response. They need context, explicit rules, structured state transitions, appropriate human oversight, resilient persistence, and a record of decisions.
What's next for Pam AI
Our next steps are to complete and validate the AWS deployment, strengthen persistent audit history, expand configurable business policies, and deepen integration with real-world event sources. Our long-term goal is to make Pam AI a reliable operational layer between physical-world events and the business systems responsible for resolving them.
