Inspiration

The inspiration for Palvella came from a desire to support local businesses in the digital age. We realized that many small shops and restaurants struggle to establish an online presence, which is crucial in today’s world. We wanted to create a platform that makes it easy for these businesses to reach their customers online.

What it does

Palvella is an online ordering platform that brings local shops and restaurants online. Customers can browse products, place orders, and make payments, all in one place. For businesses, Palvella offers an easy way to manage products, track orders, and connect with customers.

How we built it

We built Palvella using a combination of React and Redux for the frontend, Django, Django REST Framework, DjangoRESTframework-simplejwt and Django Channels for the backend, and Postgresql for database. This tech stack allowed us to build a robust and scalable platform that can handle real-time updates and manage complex state.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was handling real-time updates, such as order status changes. We overcame this challenge by using Django Channels, which allowed us to push updates to the frontend as they happen.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We’re proud of creating a platform that not only makes online shopping easier for customers but also helps local businesses thrive in the digital age. Seeing the positive impact Palvella has on our community has been incredibly rewarding.

What we learned

Throughout the development of Palvella, we learned a lot about building scalable web applications, managing complex state with Redux, and handling real-time updates with Django Channels. We also learned about the challenges that local businesses face and how technology can help overcome them.

What’s next for Palvella

Looking ahead, we plan to continue improving Palvella by adding more features based on user feedback. We’re also exploring partnerships with local delivery services to offer delivery options to our customers. Our ultimate goal is to make Palvella the go-to platform for local online shopping.
