Inspiration 💭
Our inspiration for developing a gender pay gap salary comparison app stems from our deep-seated belief in the principles of equality and fairness. Over the years, we have witnessed firsthand the pervasive disparities in pay between genders, and it has always troubled us that such inequities persist in our society. This issue goes beyond just statistics; it affects the lives and livelihoods of countless individuals, perpetuating gender-based inequalities in various aspects of life.
We envision an app that not only sheds light on pay disparities but also provides actionable insights, encouraging employers to address these discrepancies and fostering a more equitable workforce. By tackling this issue head-on, we hope to contribute to a world where everyone, regardless of gender, is compensated fairly for their contributions and has the opportunity to thrive professionally.
What it does 💰📱
PaidRight is an app that helps users compare salaries across different industries. It has a unique feature that allows users to input their information by linking their Linkedin profiles and resumes to the app. Users can filter their salary view based off of gender, occupation, location, and years off experience. They can also search for companies and view a company profile that shows an overview of the reported annual salary, an inclusivity rating, a summary of benefits, and the overall company rating.
These features allow users to make informed decisions about where to apply to jobs and see how fairly they are compensated for their work.
How we built it 🔨
Problem Statement: We defined the problem statement into a How Might We: How might we build an app that helps users compare their salary to industry averages, considering factors like gender, age, race, and more, to raise awareness about the gender pay gap in their profession?
Secondary Research: We synthesized qualitative and quantitative data from secondary research sources.
Personas: We created a persona based off of our secondary research.
Competitive Analysis (SWOT): We compared 4 competitors that had apps or websites that address wage comparisons. 5.Brainstorm Solutions: We brainstormed solutions by creating experience maps that map out possible steps for users to get to the end goal and then created rough sketches through the Crazy 8s method.
Sketch to Low-Fidelity: We then picked a few sketches to turn into low-fidelity prototypes.
Hi-Fidelity: We refined the screens and turned the low-fidelity mock ups into high-fidelity ones.
Interactions: We took the prototype and added interactions using Figma's interaction/prototype feature.
Challenges 💪
Prioritization: We have big aspirations and dreams for this app. We wanted to include many features, but had to remember we had limited time to design. It was also easy to get fixated on the UI of certain screens over others. I think if we better prioritized, we could have gotten to screens we did not get to.
Branding Guidelines: We often changed colors and font sizes while creating the high fidelity mock ups. It would have been smoother had we created branding guidelines to follow beforehand.
Accomplishments that we're proud of 🏆
We are proud that we pushed through two days of hacking despite busy schedules and hurdles.
What we learned 💡
**Branding guidelines before the hi-fi mock up - **Like mentioned above, having branding guidelines on hand before the high fidelity mock up would have made the designing process smoother.
**Collaboration with clear communication and an openness to feedback is a must - **Our partnership worked out well because we had an open line of communication. We were both open to feedback, which made our design stronger in the end. It's easier to notice more gaps and offer suggestions when you have multiple sets of eyes on a project!

Implement the features we did not get to due to the time restraint:
- Add a company review page
Also, clean up the UI a little more. 😊
