Inspiration
I followed Gabby Beckford’s brief closely, and one thing stuck with me: her community of over a million Visionaries is full of ambition, but many are stuck waiting for permission to take the first step. They see the travel grants and the career tips on social media, but there is a massive gap between scrolling and actually doing.
I built the Packs Light Visionaries App to be that permission. My goal was to create something that felt less like a static tool and more like a mentor in your pocket, an app that turns passive inspiration into a daily habit.
Built to Move
I designed the app around the idea of Mindset + Micro-actions. I wanted the user to feel Gabby’s energy every time they opened the app.
- The Daily Leap = Instead of just a to-do list, I built a card system where every task is preceded by a Mindset Memo. It gives you the why before the how.
- The Reward Loop = Gabby specifically mentioned confetti, so I made it a core part of the UX. Daily leaps get a quick celebration, but when a user finishes a Big Goal from Your Big Goals, the app triggers a massive, 4-second confetti storm, immediately after a certificate modal appears to recognize the achievement. For travel goals, tapping the Done button on the certificate seamlessly transitions into an Upload Proof flow, where the visionary can submit photos or documents of their destination. It’s a dopamine hit that rewards real world courage.
Visionary Ranking = I implemented a leaderboard not just for competition, but for social proof. Seeing other women taking up space makes the user feel like they can do it too. The ranking is powered by Gabby’s daily leaps counter, every leap adds to your standing, showing consistency and courage in action.
Levels & Badges = Users progress through a structured Level ladder and earn badges for major milestones. Levels mark long‑term growth (Novice Traveler → Grand Voyager → Skystride Nomad → Celestial Navigator and more), while badges act as collectible proof of achievements. Together, they create a progression map that celebrates both daily momentum (ranking) and legendary milestones (levels + badges).
Visionary Map = A global map that shows where visionaries have achieved their destination dreams. It’s a visual celebration of community impact.
Upload Proof of Destination = Visionaries can upload photos or memories to validate their achievements and inspire others. Once submitted, these proofs are publicly displayed on the Visionary Map (V‑Map), a shared space where each destination becomes a beacon of courage and exploration. This transforms personal milestones into collective inspiration, allowing every visionary’s journey to be seen, celebrated, and remembered by the community.
Technical Bridge
I chose a Hybrid Architecture PHP 8.x, MySQL, and CapacitorJS. This was a strategic choice to allow the creator to push real-time content updates through a custom hub while providing users a fully native experience with a splash screen, secure local storage, and the RevenueCat SDK.
By building a custom Creator Hub on the backend, I’ve given Gabby total control. She can publish a new Leap or update the Pro Vault in real time from her phone without waiting for a week of app store reviews.
CapacitorJS allowed me to bridge this fast-moving web backend with native features like haptic feedback and secure local storage to keep users logged in.
Leaflet.js ** powers the **Visionary Map feature. This lightweight, open-source mapping library allows visionaries to see global achievements in real time. By integrating Leaflet.js with the backend data, each country dynamically displays visionaries who have uploaded proof of their destination dreams. The map is interactive, responsive, and celebratory, turning achievements into a shared global story.
For monetization, I integrated the RevenueCat SDK to power the Vault. I used a teaser strategy showing users the premium titles but keeping the content locked, to make the Pro subscription feel like a high-value investment in their own growth.
The Toughest Parts
The biggest hurdle was the Deep Sync. Getting a live PHP server to talk perfectly to the native Google Play billing via RevenueCat required a lot of configuration with Google Service Accounts and JSON keys.
I also spent a lot of time on the Frictionless Auth. I didn’t want users to struggle with passwords, so I built a secure 6-digit PIN system. Solving the Infinite Scroll logic for the user directory and content lists was another win, ensuring the app stays snappy even as Gabby’s community scales to thousands of members.
Final Thoughts
The Packs Light Visionaries App started as a response to a brief, but it ended up as a scalable confidence engine. I prioritized user privacy by keeping Your Big Goals private while giving the creator an Activity Pulse to see the community’s momentum.
It’s built to scale, it’s built to monetize, and most importantly, it’s built to help women take that leap, with Visionary Maps, Proof Uploads, Badges, Levels, and Rankings making every achievement feel legendary.
