Inspiration
Traveling should be exciting, not stressful. But we all know the pain of overpacking or forgetting essentials like a charger or passport. We wanted to solve a universal, real-world problem: how to pack smarter without overthinking. That’s how PackPal was born — an AI-powered travel assistant that builds the perfect packing list for any trip, in seconds.
What it does
PackPal takes a few simple inputs — your destination, trip duration, purpose (like vacation or business), and personal preferences — and instantly generates a smart, personalized packing checklist. It covers everything from weather-appropriate clothing to electronics, toiletries, and even thoughtful extras. It’s like having a travel-savvy friend who knows exactly what you need, every time.
How I built it
I built PackPal entirely on Bolt AI, leveraging the platform’s ability to transform natural language input into structured, context-aware output. With one powerful prompt, we enabled it to understand user intent, assess trip context, and generate customized packing categories. The UI was designed to keep it clean, fun, and accessible for all ages.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was condensing complex logic into a single prompt — understanding climate, location-specific needs, packing styles (like minimalism), and travel purposes without overwhelming the user. I had to carefully balance depth and simplicity while keeping responses useful, fast, and personalized. I also iterated multiple times to ensure Bolt’s responses were human-sounding and logical.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
Created a one-shot prompt that felt like magic ✨
Achieved highly accurate, context-aware packing lists using natural inputs
Designed an intuitive and Gen-Z-friendly interface in Bolt
Validated the concept with real users who said, “Why doesn’t this already exist?”
What I learned
I learnt that simplicity is power — when you nail the prompt engineering, one small input can unlock a massive value. We also saw how AI can solve everyday friction points with elegance and speed. Bolt’s ability to understand messy human input blew us away, and we learned to work within its constraints to deliver real functionality.
What's next for PackPal
I plan to add:
Voice input + speech response using Eleven Labs
One-click export to PDF or WhatsApp for easy sharing
Weather API integration for real-time packing updates
Custom trip themes (e.g., hiking, backpacking, kids travel)
And a feature to let users collaborate with friends on shared packing lists
