Inspiration
We were inspired from the problem that people didn't know when their packages arrived, and that their packages could be stolen without them knowing. We wanted to create a solution to that problem.
What it does
A context-aware doorstep security layer built on top of Ring. It detects package deliveries by analyzing specific motion events the Ring doorbell sees. It flags suspicious removals of the package from the doorstep, creating a Potential Package removal alert with the relevant clip.
How we built it
We used a Node.js backend, and we trained a yoloe model to recongise pacakges. From running the model on teh vidoe footage, we applied logic to determine the status pf the pacakge(resting, picked up, delivered). We tested the program with real footage from Ring Doorbells of deliveries and pickups.
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built our logic on top of live motion events to classify and track packages. We also successfully trained a object detection model, tested on real data with real doorstep conditions.
What we learned
What's next for PackageGod
Implement facial recognition to see who exactly took the packages, and if they are trusted or not.
