Inspiration
Mainly inspired by how online shopping often comes with excessive amounts of packaging and brainstorming ways to reduce this unnecessary waste.
What it does
Helps businesses be more sustainable by creating packaging tailored to their product. Inspired by kirigami principles, the design folds into a compact, protective container without excess material or fillers.
How we built it
3 modular components - the pod is where the item is scanned, the scanner generates a 3D model (with a GUI to control it) and the robotic arm cuts and packages the item.
Challenges we ran into
Thinking of the robotic arm design was challenging as we wanted it to be as sustainable as possible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The design for the system is very intuitive and modular, so we believe it has a low barrier for usage.
What we learned
That even though a type of packaging is environmentally friendly, large amounts can still be detrimental to the environment.
What's next for Pack-n-go
Developing this design into a working prototype and testing it with one business as a case-study.
