Inspiration

Lack of summer storage options and a gap in accessibility of information regarding student storage facilities: One of our teammates, Nathan, was looking for summer storage facilities before the summer of 2022. He was unable to find a convenient, cheap solution that he could access without spending too much time on the entire process. Last minute changes in his schedule forced him to select a highly expensive option.

What it does

Full -stack web app that connects students in need of storage to students with storage facilities. There are many students who live in off campus apartments. These students have a lot of space that they can utilize to store stuff in the summers. The whole process is simple and highly efficient. The apartments are in close distance of campus. A lot of the students also have cars making transportation easy.

Our software is simple to use: Hosts log in and list various details such as Address, Dates available, Prices, Contact Information, Delivery Option, etc. Users looking for storage log in and can filter their search results according to various parameters such as Price, Dates Available, Distance. Users can then make a reservation and get in contact with their hosts via the web app. The whole process is secure with our OAuth and is reliable, robust.

How we built it

Our Front-end was built using React.JS, Bootsrap, Google Map API. Our Back-end was built using Firebase to facilitate the process of integrating the Back-end, Front-end and the Database.

Challenges we ran into

We were inexperienced in making a dedicated back-end. We learned many of our skills through online resources after the start of the hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Setting up OAuth, a functioning and neat front-end, and a very practical, unique project idea - that can benefit many students outside of the Hackathon.

What we learned

GitHub is a great resource for libraries. File management in group projects is crucial to an efficient workflow. The importance of databases and building a full-stack application. There are plenty resources online to make our idea into a viable start-up.

What's next for Pack I.T.

We are looking forward to enhancing our web - dev skills and user experience with more dedicated features such as an SMS system. We also would like to improve our front-end to something that we can pitch to students for real - world usage.
