Inspiration
We didn’t have a single “big” inspiration. The idea came from a recurring pain point: spinning up someone else’s repo to preview it quickly is always messy and time-consuming, so we wanted to simplify that workflow.
What it does
Repo2Preview uses AI to analyze a repository, detect the tech stack and dependencies, then generates a containerized setup and calls the Docker Engine API to build and run the app on a server.
How we built it
We built it in TypeScript, focusing on a simple pipeline: repo ingestion → analysis → Docker configuration → deployment via the Docker Engine API.
Challenges we ran into
We were working under a tight deadline, and not everyone on the team was fully comfortable with web development yet, so we had to keep the scope tight and move fast while learning on the fly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We shipped a working end-to-end prototype in a very short time, and the team noticeably leveled up in web development throughout the process.
What we learned
We learned how important it is to timebox features and make hard calls when something won’t land within the timeline. We also gained hands-on experience across the stack (API design/integration, backend workflows, and frontend wiring)
What's next for Repo2Preview
We want to build on this foundation and use the flexibility of web development to expand into more developer workflows, making repo setup, previews, and automation faster and more reliable.
