Brief overview of backend architecture
Everyone knows that finding a parking slot is a hustle. We would like to highlight just a few quick facts about the parking problem: — 30% of the traffic comes from the parking search — 22% of kids between ages 5 and 9 killed in accidents occurred during the parking — The indirect, hidden costs of driving, such as sitting in traffic and searching for parking, carry a significant economic burden for German drivers which is over 1500 USD per year.
What it does
We’ve built a solution called PCP (Park and Commute Platform) that finds the closest parking spot for you at the most affordable price.
How we built it
In order to build it, we’ve leveraged BVG and VBB APIs to retrieve the public transport information in Berlin.
We enriched this data with the BLIQ parking forecast and did an integration with the Bosch Parking Lot Sensor to allow realtime parking slots map for our premium users in the future.
Challenges we ran into
We had a few issues with IoT sensors we've used for parking lots provided by sponsors. But in tight collaboration with Bosch technical staff, we were able to quickly address the issues.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to put together a number of different APIs and integrations and build the end-to-end solution with rich UI in quite a limited time available at the hackathon.
What we learned
The most interesting insights we've learned by speaking with other participants and sponsors. Since we're not from Berlin, we didn't know all the Berlin specific issues related to the transportation situation and challenges Berliners face. It was very interesting to learn them and see that eventually in most cases the issues Berliners face are not that different from issues we face in Kyiv and other people from megapolises face daily.
Besides that, we've learned quite a number of different technical insights in IoT, Mobility and various APIs.
What's next for PAC (Park and Commute Platform)
Our monetization is simple: SaaS with freemium model. With the basic features accessible for everyone, and more advanced ones such as realtime parking spots availability and ability to book a parking spot in advance for our premium users.
In the future, we would like to focus on developing a booking parking spot feature using third-party providers.
