1. Product idea background
Many farmers are forced to abandon their harvests because their yields have a very low price due to the lack of facilities for distribution to a wider market. Over 30% of food is lost or wasted each year. This number is even more striking, given a large number of hungry people in the world. Though food loss is something that is very harmful to the environment. Wasted fruits & vegetables can produce methane gas which is more powerful than carbon dioxide and accelerates climate change!
In addition, we also highlight the attitude of the people who care about the sources and conditions when the fruits and vegetables they are going to consume are harvested.
2. Product Description
Paanen is a fruit and vegetable sales platform that helps farmers to expand the rural agricultural market and to make the purchasing system for agricultural products easier, faster, and safer, also to make rural farmers familiar with new technologies in the world. In addition to sales, we also provide a feature to track the condition of fruits and vegetables from the time they are just harvested to the hands of consumers by recording them on the blockchain system. Each pack of products sold on our platform will have a barcode that can be scanned to track the condition of the goods when they are freshly harvested, during delivery, until they reach the consumers. That way it will provide transparency of product conditions for buyers in order to provide a sense of security from the product to be consumed.
3. How we built it
The web is built with Thirdweb SDK, NextJS and Tailwind CSS frameworks and is integrated with Metamask Wallet, which can be connected to Polygon Network. We also designed the web's assets by using Figma.
4. Challenges we ran into
We've spent 40 hours researching user needs and building this web non-stop.
5. Accomplishments that we're proud of
In a short time, we've managed to wrap this web up to be a solution for village farmers to expand their marketplace.
6. What we learned
We didn't know that food loss could be that fatal, not just for our economy but also the environment.
