Inspiration

As a trader, I realized most losses come from emotional mistakes like FOMO, not bad strategy. Traditional journaling is tedious and often abandoned. I built P/L Sentinel to solve my own problem: to create a smart, AI-powered journal that makes understanding my trading psychology effortless.

What it does

P/L Sentinel is a smart trading journal. Users log trades (Stocks, Crypto, Forex) and provide raw notes. Our "AI Journalist" feature instantly rewrites the notes into clear rationale and suggests psychological tags like #FOMO. The dashboard then visualizes performance not just by P/L, but by the behavioral errors that cause losses, helping traders find and fix their biggest leaks.

How we built it

The application was built by a solo developer using Bolt.new for the frontend (React + Tailwind CSS). The backend is powered by Supabase for the database, user authentication, and storage, making it eligible for the Startup Challenge. All AI features use OpenAI (GPT-4o) via serverless Supabase Edge Functions.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was learning to "co-pilot" with the AI. Initial prompts were often misinterpreted by Bolt, leading to broken layouts. The key was learning to provide extremely specific, code-aware instructions. Ruthlessly prioritizing core features to create a stable, polished product under the tight deadline was also a critical challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm incredibly proud of building a complete, full-stack SaaS application as a solo founder in this short time. The "AI Journalist" is a standout feature that provides immediate, tangible value. Creating a polished, professional, and fully responsive UI that feels intuitive is an accomplishment that I believe sets this project apart.

What we learned

The biggest lesson was that AI development is a partnership; you must guide the AI with precise instructions to get a professional result. I also learned the importance of focusing development on the "Golden Path"—the single user workflow that creates the most impact for a 3-minute demo video.
