Readme and what is complete
The project consists of 2 apps one for the volunteer and another one for the pilgrim The volunteer app does not have a well designed UI due to lack of time but it is functional To run the package better use the latest version of android studio In the pilgrim app 2 distress signals work and update the realtime firebase database When the distress message is sent to the realtime database it send it to the nearby volunteers that are within the vicinity of 500 m The beacon read app was not integrated into the pilgrim app but is included in the files Not all the features are functional and some dummy data is inserted to display the use
Inspiration
By the year 2030 there will be an approximate 1 million volunteers per year for umrah. Volunteers are mostly local but also come from other countries. There is no central solution by which pilgrims can take the help of volunteers. Hence the birth of HAJJASSIST
What it does
In a nutshell HAJJASSIST connects pilgrims to volunteers The system consists of a volunteer app and user app The user experience of the app is extremely simple with large icons and easy navigation. Even an illiterate person can use it as there is more use of graphics than text Pilgrims can use their app to send preset distress messages that is conveyed to Nearby volunteers with their location, language and distress message When the distress message is sent to the realtime database it send it to the nearby volunteers that are within the vicinity of 500 m Volunteers receive the message and have the option to accept the request to serve Pilgrims also have the option to report incidences that will allow better reporting for the organizers The app also works within the haram sending the location and floor number using bluetooth beacons that are based of the Eddystone and the iBeacon platform
How we built it
The system consists of 2 apps one for the volunteer and another for the pilgrim Because of the lack of beacons locally the phone was simulated to be an Eddystone UID BEACON The demo is build on android but can easily be extended to other platforms The system is deployed on 2 android phones The code for beacon detection was used from the google API Rest of the code was fresh Icons were custom designed A few png were taken from the internet but they were free of watermarks Firebase realtime database was used
Challenges we faced
BLE beacons were not available locally A complete solution cannot be built in 36 hours We were new to using firebase our prior knowledge was in parse No sleep ;) UI for the volunteer end app was not completed but the app is
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We were able to incorporate all the demo features in our project within 25 hours
- Created and delveloped an orignal solution that has not been implimented
What we learned
We learned how to interface the eddystone UID beacon and also to use the firbase reltime database
What's next for P-027: eZHajj
We would like to deploy our app and manage it with regular updates this will be possible if the ministry approves the idea for use with pilgrims and volunteers
