Inspiration
i wanted to explore what happens when humanity becomes the monster. The idea of inverting the invasion cliché—making the aliens peaceful and the humans the destroyers—became the emotional core of the narrative.
What it does
OXYGEN is a short AI-generated sci-fi horror film about a dying alien race seeking to restore their planet. After humans kill their female scientists, the aliens retaliate by releasing a virus that wipes out humanity — leaving Earth silent.
How we built it
Developed the story, storyboard, and visual prompts using AI tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and FreePik. Each shot was designed in 70mm cinematic style, inspired by Christopher Nolan’s visual tone — mixing warm and cold palettes to separate human and alien worlds.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing horror and empathy. Wanted terror without gore, emotion without melodrama. Another challenge was creating AI-safe prompts that kept the tone intense but didn’t break content restrictions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A narrative was created that feels both human and alien at the same time—a story that questions morality, survival, and what it means to be "civilized." Visually, we achieved a truly cinematic atmosphere using only AI tools.
What we learned
AI can be an incredible storytelling partner — when guided by emotion and cinematic structure. We learned how to merge narrative, design, and technology to create a full short film pipeline powered by imagination.
What's next for Oxygen
Plans include expanding OXYGEN into a trilogy of short films that explore life after humanity's extinction—where aliens attempt to rebuild Earth, only to discover that human consciousness may not have truly died.
