Mission

OwnYourData’s mission is to increase the representation of women and racial/ethnic minorities in cancer clinical trials by automating National Cancer Institute-supported clinical trial matching in an easy-to-use mobile application.

About Us

OwnYourData was conceived in a social entrepreneurship class at Columbia University by Alexa, Sarah, and Galy, students with diverse backgrounds in public health, policy, and applied math, who were motivated by both personal experience and a recognition that only 15% of clinical trial participants are people of color and 41% are women, compromising the generalizability of findings and undermining trust [2]. After receiving 16k in grant funding through a competition at Columbia University in 2023, the OYD team has since partnered with the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign to develop the first version of the application using the Spezi framework [3].
