Inspiration

Both practitioners and patients have been overwhelmed by the questions and concerns spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. Practitioners are facing higher amounts of stress and burnout and patients are becoming more hesitant and confused due to the changing nature of our understanding of COVID. Oftentimes the methods that are used to find out more information about healthcare can be nonlinear and easy to get lost in. We wanted to create a solution that can help guide patients to information that is accurate, but also takes into consideration their prior understanding and biases.

What it does

We created a quiz that takes into a patients political leanings, and their current health literacy, and directed them to forms of health education that fits in line with their learning style and personality.

How we built it

We code in C# a series of quizzes that add a secret score based on user responses in regards of their political view and Health Literacy, based on their answer the user will be sent to different blog posts, social media videos and scientific literature.

Challenges we ran into

Finding evidence based health information for patients who are well-read and open to science is easy ,finding evidence based health information that can convince skeptics or those without prior exposure was very hard , and finding evidence health information for individuals who are skeptics and have some level of exposure to the science is the hardest.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Allowing our app to use platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube can make our service accessible to a wider base of users. These modules can be assigned to patients before, during or after their visits with providers and allows for continual health education instead of periodic.

What we learned

Tasks were divided equally among team members and according to one’s field of expertise . ,exchanging experiences and introducing a new concept from each member . Teamwork is built on the basis of a strong communication between members and assigning a facilitator who leads and direct the discussion

What's next for Own Research Prize

Add a statistical analysis to the app in order to check the literacy based on the gender , age and race .The app can be published
