Inspired by the idea of the struggles women face in tech, we wanted to create a game that touched some of those issues. And as a team that enjoys retro games, we were inspired by a lot of early text-based adventure games. With that in mind, we wanted to create a fun game that blends the two ideas. The game follows a woman working overtime at her company when she realizes she's not alone in the building. The game incorporates element of mystery along with small puzzles to solve along the way.
How we built it: We first planned out the story document and function interaction based on a chosen path - our planning document. We then implemented basic logic structures to control the path of the game and to create the little mini puzzles throughout. We also wanted to add some visual elements to game, which we did by using pygame.
Challenges: We had trouble with the syntax of the language, and the real-time live ide our team used. We also had trouble downloading the programs and modules that we needed. With this being our first hackathon we also ran into the issue of coming up with an idea and scaling it within the time frame. We spent a lot of deciding what we wanted to do and then planning it out, that we had to cut a bit of the story down.
Future Additions: Given more time, we would love to include more audiovisual elements in order to heighten the user's experience.
