Inspiration

After hearing about the travel category we reflected on some of the challenges we've faced while travelling in the past. That's when our user story came to mind. Sometimes the hardest part of the trip is getting it started. We wanted to help users get their travel dreams OutTheGroupChat

What it does

The program allows users to create an account and start travel plans they may share with their friends. Their friends' responses are saved in the plan for the creator to see. At any time, a user may generate an AI summary of the responses they have received, aiding them in the travel planning process.

How we built it

The program was built in React with Firebase in the backend. Using a variety of tools such as Google AI Studio we made several mockups before deciding on the flow of the user experience. From there, we ensured the code was functional sequentially as we moved from one page to the next.

Challenges we ran into

At first, we struggled with successfully collaborating on code simultaneously as we were establishing the requirements of the project. It was difficult to ensure we were all on the same page. Taking a moment to slow down and complete a foundation together at one computer was pivotal to our success.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud to have successfully created a database using Firebase/Firestore that can be updated by multiple users. Doing so was pivotal to the functionality of our program and it was certainly the most daunting task we took on.

What we learned

This was our groups' first time attending a hackathon! We learned a lot about prioritizing features to build a minimal viable product. We also explored technologies we were always curious to try out but admittedly intimidated by. By the end of the hackathon we conquered React, Firebase, Git, and leveraged various AI tools such as GeminiAI, and Copilot.
