Inspiration

We put together outstanding meetings after having discussions about how the standing piece of daily standup meetings is going away with virtual meetings. Outstanding meetings provides incentives for meeting attendants to stand up during meetings. A leader board of most outstanding meeting attendants coupled with daily status ranking provides a gamified approach to practicing healthy habits at work and reducing the increased risk of health-related complications due to sedentary habits.

What it does

Motivates individuals in the workspace to practice healthy habits by standing up during meetings. The most outstanding meeting attendants are rewarded every day by having their standing time recorded. A Hall of fame of most our-standing meeting attendants is also presented for inspiration.

How I built it

We used Azure service offerings, App Service, Serverless Function, and Bot to track and display the standing status of meeting attendants from MS Teams Meetings.

Challenges I ran into

It was the first time we tackled building an MS Bot application and integrating it with MS Teams. There were some late nights and slack messages exchanged during snoozing hours to get the working prototype ready for submission.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Getting the end-to-end integration in place for hackathon submission.

What I learned

Learned more about DevOps setups. Front-end implementation with React. Learning about Bot service and hooks was also a plus.

What's next for Outstanding Meetings

Contact sensors attached to standing tables and wearable pedometer sensors will be integrated for the future state of the solution to gather more accurate health metrics such as time spent standing during virtual meetings and the time it takes to walk to a physical meeting room.
