Inspiration
Ever run out of charge between classes? Looking for the best place to study for hours?
What it does
Outlets@Brown is a location based webapp that helps users find power outlets close to them, as well as view the ratings of power outlets (not all of them are good!).
How we built it
The webapp was built using Polymer, with several APIs from webcomponents.org . We intended to use Firebase to build the database.
Challenges we ran into
- Design -> While we had a clear idea of what we wanted the website to look like, we had issues implementing the design portion.
- Backend -> We had issues setting up a backend data base to store data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We managed to use the API's to act on an arbitrary list of data and pull relevant information. Using a list of locations, we were able to copy all those markers on the map.
- We have a clear concept of how we want our app to work and
What we learned
- Creating buttons in xCode
- Installing and using API's within Polymer
- Add style elements and customisation with Polymer framework
- Uploading and sharing code on Github
- There is a lot more to learn before we can make full app!
What's next for Outlets@Brown
- A working backend database
- A general site to support _@Brown
