Inspiration
Our inspiration for this app was me and my roommate, we did not check the weather and it was pouring rain and we got drenched. So as this hackathon started we thought to ourselves, "Hey, it would be awesome if there was an app with the weather that also told us how to dress!".
What it does
Our app gives the weather in Pittsburgh and also gives suggestions on what to wear based on the weather and lets you know if you need an umbrella.
How we built it
We found a YouTube tutorial on how to make a weather app and then we modified it based on what we wanted our app to do.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to make it so that the app would auto-refresh every hour, however, with many failed tries we were unable to do this.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the text to display based on the weather was probably the best thing we did, as it's the main part of our app.
What we learned
We learned how to use Java Swing and how Java API's work.
What's next for OutfitCast
Possibly adding the hourly refresh feature, and integrating it across campus and in dorms to help students dress for the weather.
