Inspiration

The covid-19 pandemic keeps us in our homes. This is bad for our mental health and innate desire to explore and experience new things.

What it does

Outdoor escapes leverages technology to deliver immersive experiences to our homes through 360 degree, point-of-view, VR, and HD videos.

How we built it

Python (requests, BeautifulSoup), Youtube API v3, React, Bootstrap, Node, Algolia, Bluehost

Challenges we ran into

1) non english video results 2) bootstrap component not correctly working with iframes 3) travel.usnews.com and youtube not allowing python requests in robots.txt 4) going over daily youtube API quotas

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Finishing an end to end webapp and positive feedback from users

What we learned

Algolia API, Youtube API v3, deeper knowledge about react and react boostrap components.

What's next for Outdoor Escapes

Larger Dataset, AI personalization based on user, Query suggestions with Algolia, Cleaner Webapp styling, Aggregation of content from other platforms
