Inspiration
Identify a need in our local community
We thought that young kids were not getting outdoors enough and that by teaching kids about survival skills in a game they might be excited to try the same skills outdoors.
What it does
Currently, our game teaches and guides players on how to build a fire, setup a tent, filter water, and orient a compass.
How we built it
We built everything in Godot and used Git for version control.
Challenges we ran into
Along with collaboration comes merge conflicts and a couple of times this caused trouble for us. Even corrupting a file at one point. Making sprites for every task was incredibly hard as none of us are artists.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
None of us had done transitions before so the main menu sliding to the level select is something we are proud of. We also believe this is a unique problem that has not been tackled by computer science yet. Additionally, communicating through scenes so that items could show up after tasks were completed was a struggle but very rewarding.
What we learned
We learned how to work separately and efficiently. This was all of our first game jam so there was a lot to figure out in terms of defining the project so we could finish it in the given time.
What's next for Outdoor Adventure
We would like to add more tasks and update the sprites so they are more consistent between levels.
