β Inspiration !
- Addressing the lack of accessibility in various locations πΌποΈ
- Numerous historic buildings lack accessible bathrooms and proper means to access higher floors, even when essential classes for students with disabilities are held there π
- Underserved and LGBTQIA+ communities struggle to access support and health resources as these systems that claim to serve everyone often neglect these very communities π«₯
- Creating an easy-to-access map for users to find accommodations that meet their specific requirements
- Prioritizing inclusive features and accessibility options, including health services, community and support centers, and etc. π₯π«
- Offering a diverse range of places and accommodations based on user requests and needs βΏπ©Ό
βοΈ What it does
- Allows users to specify their desired services and resources ππ§
- Users can select multiple services via checkboxes for personalized search βοΈπ§
- Provides a drop-down menu for users to choose locations with their selected services ππΊοΈ
β¨οΈ How we built it
- The project's design was created using Figma π€©β¨
- Bootstrap was used for front-end development π₯Ύπ
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript were employed to build the website π§βπ»π₯οΈ
π€ Challenges we ran into
- Dealing with issues related to code compilation and debugging ππ
- Initially attempted to create a decision tree but encountered challenges with the chosen methods π³π
- Had to adapt and use different coding methods due to challenges with the initial approach πββοΈπ
- Faced difficulties in identifying and resolving various coding-related issues throughout the project π§©π
π₯ Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully devised an alternative method to create a decision tree despite dealing with complex data π±οΈπΎ
- Accomplished the project within a short timeline, demonstrating efficient project management β°π
- Designed a visually appealing and user-friendly user interface (UI) that enhances the overall user experience ππ
π What we learned
- Significantly increased our familiarity with various software programs and tools π¨βοΈ
- Gained insights into the specific services that people need but often struggle to find easily through standard web searches πβοΈ
- Developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of accessibility in online platforms and the challenges of finding public records of accessibility, which sometimes don't exist π«π
βοΈ What's next for Out and About
- Plan to expand beyond the exclusive focus on the Atlanta area and cover all of Georgia πποΈ
- Consider the possibility of further extending the service to cover the entire United States πΏπ½
- Continuously collect and incorporate user feedback to improve the website's functionality and user experience π₯πΈ
- Explore potential collaborations with local organizations, government bodies, and accessibility advocacy groups to enhance the platform's services and reach π€π
