Inspiration

As high school seniors unable to attend school due to the coronavirus crisis, we realized that students like us all over the nation were suddenly placed in a disadvantaged position. We also noticed that many parents who are now working from home are striving to teach their kids themselves by finding study materials online. We wanted to give the academic community an opportunity to come together during a time of crisis and voluntarily contribute original study materials to students through a crowdsource-based platform. We were also inspired by China's grand revolution in AI education to use machine learning to ship students customized daily study packages through a time-saving pipeline.

What it does

Our platform seeks to deliver seamless AI-driven education provided by leading educators around the globe directly to students, accessed from the comfort of their home.

How we built it

Python (Keras, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, Tensorflow), HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP.

Challenges we ran into

Developing an AI-based matching platform is incredibly difficult given the lack of data and research studies available. We designed a proof-of-concept using Tensorflow and Keras to save time and showcase potential.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A dynamic and robust end-to-end solution that effectively drives impact through education and engages the academic community at large to achieve this goal. The ability to use technology to make a difference in a time of crisis.

What we learned

AI-based education has great potential, especially during times of crisis where traditional face-to-face classrooms simply are not a viable solution.

What's next for Ouroboros

We want to host it on a robust cloud service such as AWS or Azure and train our machine learning model on a larger dataset to make our matching capabilities more accurate and efficient. The most exciting part of Ouroboros is its scalability and modularity. It is scalable in the sense that this is a project that will continue to be useful to students and educators even after the coronavirus crisis has passed. It is modular in the sense that both students and educators can utilize our platform for a variety of academic purposes; students and parents can use Ouroboros to find extra study materials and practice problems while educators can employ Ouroboros to make exams or create individual study packets for each student.
