Inspiration

OurClass was inspired by the challenges that students and professors face in traditional classroom settings. We wanted to create a platform that would make it easier for students to engage with course materials, communicate with their professors, and receive immediate feedback on their performance. By streamlining these processes and making them more accessible through an online platform, we hope to create a more effective and collaborative learning environment for everyone.

What it does

The purpose of the online learning communication system is to give professors feedback after a particular class activity using data analytics to increase engagement in the classroom and to eliminate the disconnect in expectations and understanding between professors and students. OurClass uses AI (ideally) to filter through these data analytics to provide the professor a means of engagement within their lectures and general understanding; the professor can see, for example, how many times students are talking about a particular topic, or how many times a question was asked. They can then use this feedback to adjust their teaching style and class organization.

How we built it

We built the UI designs with Figma and used HTML and CSS to create the front end; as second-years, we don't have the necessary knowledge yet to work with the backend or add functionality, but as we gain more experience, we hope to add more to the platform!

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges is that we had this original idea in mind before pivoting and then pivoting back to this idea; this ideation stage took up the entirety of the first day of the hackathon. We only had yesterday and about 4 hours to complete the UI design and the UI for the data analytics dashboard.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

During this project, we made a software requirements specification (SRS) document and several use case/scenario diagrams that we're extremely proud of! We learned this material in CSS 360, and it helped us tremendously with our project should be fleshed out. We also taught one of our team members Figma for the first time which is a good learning experience for them!

What we learned

We learned to DEFINITELY ideate and flesh out an idea more before participating in the hackathon; we had a rough idea of what the project should be about, but because we didn't spend more time on it, we were on a time crunch and rushed through some parts.

What's Next for OurClass

As we're learning, we hope to clean up the design and expand on functionality! Thank you so much!

The first link is the CodePen code; make sure to look at the project in FULL-VIEW. We currently have not yet updated the project to accommodate the responsive design. Just a heads up, the tailwind and HTML code was **created FROM SCRATCH*; we did not use a tutorial to make it. We did, however, use a UI design for inspiration, but there was no code used.
