Inspiration
As students from a variety of universities, we realized a common issue on our campuses, It was hard for students to be aware of everything that is going on around them. FSU,UF, FIU and other schools have event pages on their websites but it’s not always straightforward to find these pages or even their actual events.
What it does
A website designed for college students to better visualize what’s happening on campus.
How we built it
We scrape data from the university sites using a python program, afterwards another python program is called to sift through the information, after which relevant information is stored in a json file and sent to our website. Our website then uses a web application to map out the given data onto the map for the user to see.
Challenges we ran into
Lack of experience in back end programming and mobile development, surviving our first Hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of.
Greg the Giraffe mascot/logo (fun fact since he's so tall he always knows what's happening on campus), we made our first html website. The fact we used several languages to make a cohesive product.
What we learned
HTML, CSS, Python, graphic design, teamwork, sleep/time management.
What's next for Our Syllabus
With more time and future development we also plan to introduce a discussion board where people can share useful tips while navigating through class and their university, creating a mobile version, as well as expanding this to other universities.
