Inspiration; Our Lady of Refuge Website and SHPE mercado
Summary
The local church, Our Lady of Refuge, envisioned a new initiative to support local businesses. Doing so by requesting to create a commerce website where community members can browse and purchase goods from nearby small businesses. This is made easier than in person because users are allowed to filter by sellers, color, price, and ect. This stands out from other selling websites as only authorized sellers will be able to login and have an account for the website by directly contacting us.
What it does
This website's main goal is to help uplift and support local long beach families that are selling at the Lady Our Refuge Church in order to make ends meet. Through this website people will be able to see the different sellers that are at this local church and what items they have for sell.
How we built it
We built this website using React as our framework, typescript, CSS, HTML, and supabase for our backend to allow for sellers to get an authorized login.
Challenges we ran into
A huge challenge we ran into when working on this website was being able to fully connect the backend with the frontend, since it is our first times using tools such as React, typescript, and supabase. We also did not want to provide Google with our credit card information to allow for an interactive map to let the user's find the directions to the church, so we had to find an alternative by using an iframe.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having a fully functioning navbar that redirects people to a new page based on the tab that they select.
What we learned
We learned how to work together as a team and connect the frontend with the backend; along with getting used to React, typescript, and CSS.
What's next for Our Lady of Refuge Commerce Selling Website
Hopefully we will be able to get sellers fully settled into the websites backend and allow them to be able to log in and post their items for people within the local community to see items and hopefully support them
