Inspiration
We were inspired by chill games like WEBFISHING and Sledding Game!
What it does
It's a game where you dive to collect a variety of trinkets, have meaningful conversations, and buy accessories. Unwind by a campfire, chat with friends or go diving for clams! Chill out and watch the sunrise from the benches by the stream!
How we built it
Pushed and pulled frequently, merging changes and waiting for others to finish their work. We used three.js for the main game as well as python for the multiplayer and networking stuff.
Challenges we ran into
How to integrate AI into our workflow to speed things up and managing an ever-growing and mutating codebase (with 4 people working on it at the same time). We also ran into numerous issues with the 3d animations for the otter characters.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Figuring out multiplayer
- Simple but robust no-account system
- Automatic deployment via GitHub Actions
- The scenery and how beautiful the world looks
- The trinket collection mechanic
What we learned
Network infrastructure Creating a game in Three.js 3D Modelling (Blender)
What's next for Otter Nonsense
Improving the performance Adding additional minigames Ability to have multiple servers running and allowing you to join with your friends only Allowing otters to wear other types of accessories or clothing other than hats
