Inspiration
A lot of the inspiration for this project was a local monument/statue near our college. Its shape gave us the idea of a portal forming in the middle of and the idea to include a monster evolved from there. Our main inspiration for the design of our monsters came from the concept of Kaijus and the monster hunter genre.
What it does
Our project displays a portal and a creature that comes out of the portal when a target image is scanned. This however can only be done once the program has been activated using a QR code.
How we built it
We built it by editing a project that already existed on 8th wall. We altered this project in order for it to meet our needs and have also added our own 3D model to it as well.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges that we ran into included a lack of knowledge on the subject generally. We did not fully understand JavaScript or the concepts surrounding augmented reality such as the difference between world tracking and image tracking.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have managed to create a final project with original 3D models and have managed to edit JavaScript which we had no experience with prior to this project.
What we learned
We have learned about the concepts associated with AR, a basic understanding of JavaScript as well as how to put together a project and work more cohesively as a team to accomplish everything we needed to with a specific time frame.
What's next for Other worlds invade
Our project would be turned into a Pokémon go styled game. Players would interact with the game via hidden QR codes. These QR codes would be in the form of graffiti, brickwork, stickers and in other unique ways. These QR codes would be hidden in places that receive a high amount of foot traffic and players would get a notification when in an area that contains a QR code.
