Right now, if you want to use the Internet anywhere on the planet, there's only one answer: slow networks that take a half hour to load a few news headlines. The companies selling the device have themselves called the Internet connectivity "unusable".
Osmium changes that. Osmium is a collection of four critical webapps: translate, maps, news, and finance -- that anyone can use from anywhere on the globe. These webapps have been modified to only be a few hundred bytes per page using technology that I developed. Clearly, the pages are not as decadent as most sites on the modern Web -- but they load in the blink of an eye.
Today, there are no sites on the Internet providing maps, finance, or translation for users that do not have fast connections. A few sites exist for news, but they are usually decades old and not up to date. Osmium's webapps are the first that allow people to use them on any connection quality: they can be used on satellite Internet, over dialup, over any connection quality, and they all load in the blink of an eye.
