Inspiration
We're representing Sacramento States Data Science Club. We enjoy capturing data and presenting it in ways that are useful and create improvements for others.
What it does
Our project is about to compare and contrast the energy usage of campus buildings from previous dates, as well as show monetary savings/loses.
We've created a budgeting tool that helps guide goals towards improving energy usage and efficiency for all buildings on campus.
Elegant visualizations that allow users to see the distribution of energy resources among all buildings on campus
How we built it
We built our project from scratch, heavily relying on the OSISoft API, Angular.js, and Google charts.
Challenges we ran into
- Finding efficient ways to query the OSI API. Creating some queries could take more than 3 API calls to get what we wanted
- Relearning AngularJS and dealing with the intricacies of asynchronous programming
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is one of our most completed hackathon projects to date
Being able to kick off the school year with a fun hackathon
What we learned
How to optimize heavily nested APIs Gained better understanding of async programming and new ways of approaching it
