Oshicho — the budgeting app made for oshi-katsu (fan life)

Tagline: Track every yen you spend on your oshi — and never miss a step after you win a lottery.

Inspiration

Supporting your favorite idol or artist ("oshi-katsu") gets expensive fast: concert tickets, travel, goods, CDs, handshake/photo lottery entries. Generic budgeting apps feel cold and judgmental, and they have no idea what a "lottery win" or a "handshake event" even is. We wanted a money app that speaks fan, keeps the mood dreamy and kind — never shaming you for spending on what you love.

What it does

Oshicho is a household-budget app built specifically for fan activities.

  • Track spending per oshi with categories, and see an MVP ("who you spent the most on this month").
  • Lottery / entry management (our headline v1.2 feature): log applications (handshake, live, photo, etc.), record CDs bought and entry counts, and see your win rate. When you win, Oshicho turns it into an "after-you-win" to-do checklist — pay, receive tickets, distribute to friends, arrange travel — and lets you log the payment as an expense in one tap.
  • Budgets, calendar, and analytics — a gentle monthly budget with a soft "remaining / over" nudge (never a scolding), a calendar of upcoming plans and deadlines, and category/oshi breakdowns.
  • Redesigned home (v1.2): add expenses, plans, and entries in one tap; see your to-dos, this week's plans, and recent spending at a glance.
  • Start with no sign-up. Begin anonymously and link an account later (Email / Apple / Google).
  • No ads. Ever.

How we built it

  • Flutter (iOS first) with Riverpod, go_router, freezed.
  • Supabase (Postgres) for data & auth, with Row Level Security on every table so users only ever touch their own data.
  • RevenueCat for in-app purchases.
  • Firebase Analytics for privacy-conscious product metrics (no IDFA / no ATT prompt).
  • A hand-built design system ("dreamy, Alice-in-Wonderland-ish pink") with M PLUS Rounded typography and reusable tokens/components.

Monetization (RevenueCat)

A single, honest one-time purchase: "Unlimited Oshi" (¥980) via RevenueCat — 2 oshi are free, so anyone can try the whole app first. No subscriptions, no ads. The free limit is remotely tunable so we can tune generosity without a new build.

Challenges we ran into

  • Designing money features that stay kind and non-judgmental while still being accurate — e.g., showing "¥X over budget" softly instead of alarming red everywhere.
  • Building an anonymous-first flow that upgrades cleanly to a linked account without losing data.
  • Making a carousel of "to-do" cards that expands inline on the home screen while keeping every card the same height.

Accomplishments we're proud of

  • Shipped a genuinely fan-native money app, not a generic tracker with a skin.
  • The win → to-do → pay → recap loop is a story no general budgeting app tells.
  • A cohesive, original visual world that feels like love for your oshi lives here.

What we learned

  • In this niche, tone is a feature. "Non-blaming" copy and soft nudges changed how the whole product feels.
  • Keeping monetization simple (one clear purchase, generous free tier) builds trust.

What's next

  • Goal-based saving ("save up for the dome tour"), premium analytics, diary/memories, and Android.
