Inspiration
OSERIN was born out of chaos, literally. When a close friend had a medical emergency in Lagos, we didn’t know who to call, where to find an ambulance, or which hospital could help. It was pure panic, and we only got lucky because someone happened to be nearby. That experience made one thing clear: millions of Nigerians face this same uncertainty every day, and most aren’t so lucky.
What it does
OSERIN is an AI-powered emergency response platform that instantly connects people to the nearest available ambulance and hospital. No more guessing, no more language barriers, just fast, reliable help, whether you speak English, Yoruba, Hausa, or Igbo. Even with low bandwidth, anyone can fill out a simple emergency form and get matched to care. After submitting, users get a live Google Maps tracking page showing ambulance and hospital ETAs, so you know exactly when help is coming.
How we built it
• Bolt.new: No-code builder for rapid prototyping • Supabase: Session tracking and secure storage • Netlify: Hosting • Google Maps + Directions API: Real-time location and ETA logic • Spitch + ElevenLabs: Speech-to-text for english and local language support
Challenges we ran into
• Integrating speech-to-text for multiple local languages (spoiler: not as easy as it sounds). • Getting accurate real-time ambulance data in a place where “real-time” is a flexible concept. • Making everything work smoothly, even when the internet connection is not.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
• Built a platform that works even on low bandwidth and supports multiple Nigerian languages. • Created a seamless, simple workflow that anyone can use in an emergency. • Got real feedback from the community and iterated quickly based on their needs.
What we learned
• Building for real-world Nigeria means designing for unreliable networks, multiple languages, and lots of improvisation. • Simplicity saves lives: a clear, fast workflow beats fancy features in an emergency. • Community feedback is gold, every conversation revealed a new challenge.
What's next for OSERIN
• Expand language support to cover even more local dialects. • Partner with hospitals and ambulance services to improve real-time data. • Launch a public awareness campaign so every Nigerian knows about OSERIN. • Open source the platform for anyone to use, adapt, or improve, because in an emergency, everyone deserves a fighting chance.
