oscl8r is a project thinking about music creation for the future - focusing on hand gestures to change the pitch, oscillation, and vibrato to effect synthesizer and drum sounds. We wanted to allow users to have a more engaging and immersive environment in which they can create music easily without being tied down to a mouse and keyboard.
We were inspired by the leap motion application "Ghost Anatomy" that won awards in the informatics capstone last year. "Ghost Anatomy" manipulated 3d objects in way that we thought might could be applied to sound. We kept the average musician in mind for our target user. We all play instruments and wanted oscl8r to be something that would improve the experience and musicianship for users like us.
