Inspiration

Oscar Nutrição was born from something very simple: observing everyday life.

Over the years, I realized that I had developed unhealthy eating habits without even noticing. Like many people, I often chose fast food, ultra-processed products, and whatever was easiest because of work, lack of time, or simply because it had become part of my routine.

As I looked around, I realized I wasn't alone. Family members, friends, coworkers, and countless other people were living the same way. Poor eating habits had quietly become normal, almost as if unhealthy food had become the default choice simply because modern life leaves so little time to think about nutrition.

That observation made me start paying closer attention to the choices we make every day. I discovered that healthier alternatives already exist, but many people don't choose them because they are busy, exhausted, overwhelmed, or simply don't know where to start.

That realization became the seed for Oscar Nutrição. My goal was to create a tool capable of making nutritional knowledge more accessible, helping people make healthier decisions without making nutrition feel complicated or intimidating.

Shortly after starting the project, my life changed unexpectedly. I was diagnosed with tuberculosis. The treatment forced me to stop working for months, leaving me without income for part of that time. Recovering while facing financial uncertainty and physical limitations became one of the greatest challenges of my life.

Ironically, that experience reinforced the purpose of Oscar Nutrição. During my recovery I experienced firsthand how important nutrition can be in supporting the body's healing process. Even while isolated and undergoing treatment, I continued designing and improving the project whenever my health allowed.

This month I was finally able to return to work, but my treatment is still ongoing. There are days when my health doesn't allow me to perform at my best, yet I still need to work. Between work, medical treatment, recovery, and the little free time I have left, I continue building Oscar Nutrição because I truly believe this project can help thousands of people better understand nutrition and build healthier habits.

What it does

Oscar Nutrição is an intelligent nutrition platform that generates personalized meal plans based on each person's profile, health conditions, dietary restrictions, goals, preferences, and lifestyle.

Rather than simply creating meal plans, the project was designed to help people better understand nutrition, encouraging healthier long-term habits through practical, personalized, and easy-to-understand guidance.

How we built it

Oscar Nutrição was designed by me and developed through hundreds of iterative development sessions using OpenAI Codex as the primary coding assistant.

Every feature was refined through continuous testing, documentation, architectural improvements, code cleanup, and multiple iterations until reaching a clean, modular, and maintainable structure.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was continuing development while recovering from tuberculosis.

At the same time, I faced months without income, financial uncertainty, and eventually returning to work while still undergoing treatment. Finding time and energy to continue building the project became one of the hardest parts of the journey.

Despite these challenges, I continued improving Oscar Nutrição one step at a time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of transforming an idea born from everyday observations into a functional platform capable of generating personalized nutritional guidance.

I'm also proud that, despite the health and financial difficulties, I never stopped believing in the project's purpose and continued moving it forward.

What we learned

Building Oscar Nutrição reinforced an important lesson: technology becomes far more meaningful when it solves real problems.

I also learned how powerful iterative development with OpenAI Codex can be, allowing complex ideas to evolve into a structured, maintainable, and continually improving application.

What's next

Oscar Nutrição will continue evolving with new nutritional knowledge, improved personalization, and Rafael, an intelligent nutrition assistant designed to provide increasingly personalized guidance while keeping the experience simple, educational, and accessible for everyone.
