Inspiration

OrthoPedia is a smart podiatry company that caters to the need of patients that are at risk of GAIT instability due to amputations or surgeries by the use of affordable and compliance-free smart socks that provide real-time analytics, thus, restricting the aggravation of these comorbidities to severe back pain, spinal injury and neurodegenerative diseases.

What it does

Patients with amputations, limb surgeries & prosthetic appendages are at a risk of GAIT variation and instability leading to crippling ailments like back pain, spinal injuries, and even neurodegenerative diseases which affect the patient's mobility and hence their quality of life.

Our solution to the problem is smart socks. The equipment is a GAIT analyzer, which measures a person's gait in real-time.

How we built it

The device contains a Pressure-sensitive conductive sheet, a sensor used to collect foot temperature data, which is used in the GAIT analyzer algorithm and shows analytics to the user. Another sensor I want to talk about is Arduino nano 33 BLE, which is a microcontroller compact device that is used to transfer data to the app. The device also makes use of an MCU based on an NRF chip for data transmission through Bluetooth. Pressure sensors are embedded in the three most sensitive areas of the feet.

The data pipeline we are using to achieve the best outcomes possible is as follows:

  • Hardware collects real-time data.
  • Raw data is sent over to the cloud.
  • Data is pre-processed by the algorithm.
  • Anomaly and GAIT variations are observed.

This concludes with the end user outputs including :

  • Recommendations: given for personalized insoles.
  • Analytics: shown to the user.
  • Early alerts: raised for preventive care.

Challenges we ran into

No, our idea makes the use of a sensor matrix and a backend that processes real-time data using AI and gives conclusive inferences to the user. Even our business model is uniques with the DaaS-Subscription system along, with buybacks and personalized market space for orthopedic accessories.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • OrthoPedia offers patients with real-time analysis of their posture and GAIT using AI models and a distinguished system of sensor matrices that encapsulates all the data points to conclusively alert users towards the probable progression of a disease.
  • To make market penetration easier, OrthoPedia shall enter the market with a clinical trial-backed product with a succinct and appropriate claim against an existing alternative to boost doctor-product acceptance and this doctor-patient recommendation.
