Inspiration
Last week, four friends. One bill. Fifteen minutes of "who had the coke" and "did you add tax." Someone paid extra. No one was happy. I said fuck it, I'm building something.
What it does
You type "Pizza 500, Coke 100, Pasta 350." You type number of people. You click one button. It tells you how much each person pays. That's it. Nothing else.
How we built it
One HTML file. Notepad. JavaScript. Regex to find numbers. Add them. Divide. Google Colab to host because it's free and takes two minutes. No framework. No bullshit.
Challenges we ran into
One hour. That's all I had. Couldn't add AI. Couldn't build backend. Couldn't do fancy shit. So I kept it stupid simple. And you know what? It works.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It works on my phone. It works on my friend's phone. He used it today. Split a 3800 bill in 5 seconds. No arguments. No math. Just done. That feeling? Yeah.
What we learned
Perfect is the enemy of done. I wanted to add ten features. I built one. That one feature solves the problem. Ship first. Fancy later.
What's next for Orion Bill Splitter - Smart Expense Calculator
Camera. Take photo of receipt. AI reads it automatically. No typing. Add tip percentage. Add split by item. WhatsApp share button. And make it a PWA so people save it like an app.
