Inspiration

We realized that when people are overwhelmed, traditional to-do apps make the problem worse because they require you to be organized just to start. We built Orion to bridge the gap between mental chaos and actionable clarity.

What it does

Orion is a personal assistant that listens to your concerns—whether voiced or typed—and organizes them for you. Users can "vent" their unstructured thoughts, and Orion analyzes the input to identify specific tasks, estimate completion times, and categorize them into areas like Work, Family, or Finance. These are then displayed on a minimal, distraction-free dashboard, allowing the user to focus on one small step at a time.

How we built it

Backend: Python and Flask were used to handle server-side logic and package management. Frontend: Jinja was used for templating, with vanilla JavaScript managing browser and document events. Database: MongoDB hosted on MongoDB Atlas for flexible and scalable data storage. Styling: Tailwind CSS and daisyUI were used to create a professional and clean user interface.

Challenges we ran into

The primary challenge was balancing our vision for Orion with the strict 24-hour hackathon time limit. We had to make difficult decisions on which features to prioritize to ensure we delivered a polished, functional MVP.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are particularly proud of building a fully functional, end-to-end application in just 24 hours that addresses a complex psychological problem with a technical solution. Successfully integrating a voice-to-action pipeline where unstructured rambling is transformed into a clean, organized dashboard felt like a major win.

What we learned

Beyond refining our technical skills, we learned how to implement and scale a database using MongoDB and deploy it via MongoDB Atlas.

What's next for Orion AI

The next step for Orion is to expand its ecosystem by integrating with third-party productivity tools such as Google Calendar, Notion, and Slack.
