Inspiration

Organic foods have significantly lower carbon footprints and can reduce global agricultural gas emissions by approximately 20%. However, many people don’t know how to use organic foods, limit food waste and manage their carbon footprint. This inspires me to create OrgFoodie - an AI-powered mobile app for sustainability.

What it does

The app connects users to good sources of eco-friendly organic food ingredients and reminds them of the expiration date so they will use these ingredients early and limit food waste. Based on the list of ingredients they have, AI recommends recipes for ingredients by expiration date and meals’ carbon footprint. To help users better manage their carbon footprint, the AI smart tracking feature will analyze users’ weekly carbon footprint and suggest how to sustain the environment. In addition, OrgFoodie chatbot will assist users with any questions about food and sustainability. For example, users can ask chatbot about the carbon footprint of some common organic ingredients.

How we built it

From the given prompt about sustainability, I brainstormed ideas, identified the purposes and features of the product, and researched related products. After finalizing OrgFoodie’s ideas and features, I used Figma to design and prototype.

Challenges we ran into

I have designed UI for website and mobile app projects using Figma before, but this is my first time doing a prototype on Figma. Also, I want to design the app in my own way, including the app’s logo, so it took me much time to come up with ideas that both align with the app’s purpose and ensure usability.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I feel happy to design a new app as my ideas in 24 hours!

What we learned

I learned how to analyze practical problems to come up with a new design solution and prototype a user-friendly app.

What's next for OrgFoodie

I plan to add more features that help users manage their carbon footprint.
