What Inspired OrenjiFind

OrenjiFind was born out of a love for animals and a desire to create meaningful change through design. Growing up, I often noticed stray cats finding clever hiding spots in the most unexpected places, blending into the urban landscape. This project was inspired by their resilience and the need to bring their stories into focus. It’s a reminder that the world isn’t just ours—it’s shared with the animals around us.

What I Learned

This journey reinforced the importance of empathy and storytelling in design. I discovered how technology like AR could foster awareness and create an emotional connection between users and important social issues. Designing for both fun and purpose taught me to balance playfulness with impact, ensuring the experience resonates with diverse audiences.

How I Built the Project

OrenjiFind is a blend of creativity, technology, and storytelling. I started with user research to understand what could make people notice and care about stray animals. The game was prototyped using tools like Figma for interface design and Unity with Vuforia for AR functionality. Animations and 2D assets were created using Procreate, keeping the design lighthearted and engaging. Every interaction was carefully crafted to spark joy while subtly promoting awareness and action.

Challenges I Faced

Building OrenjiFind wasn’t without its hurdles. As someone new to Unity and AR development, there was a steep learning curve. Learning to create a seamless AR experience required countless iterations, especially in balancing technical limitations with creative ambition. Additionally, the challenge of making a fun, engaging game that also addresses a serious issue required careful thought and feedback. These challenges, however, pushed me to grow as a designer and storyteller.

What’s Next?

OrenjiFind is just the beginning. We aim to expand the game to more levels, incorporate user-generated stories, and establish partnerships with animal rescue organizations. By combining technology with empathy, I hope to create a lasting impact—one playful tap at a time.
