What is the problem your solution addresses?

Our solution addresses the limitations people face that make learning a challenge. One limitation is prioritization, as obligations of daily life are more demanding and may cause learning goals to be pushed into the future. Another limitation is a lack of exposure. Social media is increasingly becoming a source of information. Though it can bring a multitude of things unseen before to the user, its content often appears due to its trendiness/emotional reactivity and can hold bias. Furthermore, it isn’t a good basis for people’s attention spans for them to pursue the subject further.

Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?

We made a user-centered resource to learn about other countries. Our globe feature allows people to explore on their own time. Information is categorically sorted so people can expand their knowledge on topics of interest! The chance to learn easily is provided with a daily fact notification. This solution expands one’s worldview. There’s influence in our lives from other cultures, in music, fashion, architecture, etc. There’s cool facts, new outlooks, and technologies unique to different regions of the world that can be fun to learn. Also, something that motivated us that we’d like to expand on in further development is the provided chance to have solidarity with others. Open-mindedness and awareness to the different ways sociopolitical issues exist is important for community and respect. Overall, this app could create an accessible way to broaden one’s understanding and shape their thought process to look at things from multiple directions.

Challenges we ran into

In the beginning, we unknowingly adjusted the size of the frame so we realized at the end that it is not fit to any device, but this is something we will be sure to check now!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first designation! So we are happy with the skills we were able to work on in this timeframe and enjoy what came out of it.

What we learned

We practiced collaborating on our ideas, giving feedback, and considering visual/logistical flow. It was cool doing multiple versions of a feature and seeing the difference it could make!

What's next for Curious Globe

A feature that we envision for this app is personalization though a news feed based on topics or locations the user follows. Another feature is a Q&A: once a week, a question is selected from user submissions and posted on the app. People answer anonymously, and their answer is displayed on the globe in the country of their location. Lastly, there would be an option for the user to submit a fact check if the information provided seems to be incorrect.
