Inspiration
Modern engineering teams rely on fragmented tools for code quality, security, CI/CD, documentation, and ML governance. OrbitOps AI was inspired by the need for a single autonomous platform that transforms repository context into actionable release intelligence before deployment.
What it does
OrbitOps AI is an autonomous DevMLSecOps intelligence platform powered by GitLab Orbit. It analyzes repositories, evaluates security posture, dependency health, documentation readiness, CI/CD status, ML governance risks, and generates a Release Readiness Score with deployment recommendations.
How we built it
We built OrbitOps AI using FastAPI, LangGraph-compatible StateGraph orchestration, and a multi-agent architecture. Specialized agents collaborate through shared state and A2A handoffs to perform repository analysis, risk assessment, release evaluation, and executive reporting. The frontend is built with React, Vite, and Recharts to provide an enterprise-grade dashboard experience.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was creating a realistic multi-agent DevMLSecOps platform that remains fully runnable in a hackathon environment without requiring live GitLab credentials, external LLM APIs, or complex infrastructure. We solved this through an offline-first architecture with production-ready integration points.

What we learned
We learned that effective AI systems require more than powerful models. Context, orchestration, governance, explainability, and workflow automation are equally important. GitLab Orbit provides the contextual foundation that enables autonomous agents to make meaningful engineering decisions.
