OrbitArchitect
Inspiration
Understanding an unfamiliar GitHub repository takes time. Developers must manually explore files, dependencies, and documentation before they understand a project's architecture. OrbitArchitect simplifies this by turning any public GitHub repository into an interactive architectural overview with AI-powered explanations.
What it does
OrbitArchitect analyzes a GitHub repository and generates:
- AI-powered repository summary
- Interactive architecture graph
- Tech stack detection
- Dependency & risk analysis
- AI chat grounded in repository context
- Persistent project history and chat sessions
How we built it
- Frontend: Next.js 16, React 19, Tailwind CSS, React Flow, Dagre
- Backend: Next.js Route Handlers
- AI: Groq (Llama 3.3 70B) via Vercel AI SDK
- Database: Amazon DynamoDB (single-table design)
- APIs: GitHub REST API
- Deployment: Vercel
Challenges
- Configuring AWS SDK region resolution on Vercel
- Optimizing React Flow layouts for repositories of different sizes
- Replacing Vercel AI Gateway with Groq due to deployment limitations
- Designing an efficient DynamoDB schema for analysis, chats, and project history
Accomplishments
- Built a complete repository analysis pipeline in a single request
- Persistent AI chat and project history using DynamoDB
- Interactive architecture visualization for any public GitHub repository
- Fast analysis with cached results and scalable backend design
What we learned
- DynamoDB single-table design
- Streaming AI with the Vercel AI SDK
- Graph layout optimization using Dagre
- Building production-ready serverless applications on Vercel and AWS
What's next
- GitHub OAuth and private repository support
- Support for more languages and build systems
- Import-based architecture graphs
- Repository diff analysis
- Scheduled re-analysis and change tracking
